{"id":85,"date":"2016-11-03T00:48:48","date_gmt":"2016-11-02T14:48:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cnmioag.wordpress.com\/?page_id=85"},"modified":"2019-09-23T09:51:20","modified_gmt":"2019-09-22T23:51:20","slug":"consumer-protection","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.cnmioag.org\/divisions\/consumer-protection\/","title":{"rendered":"Office of the Consumer Counsel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Office of the Consumer Counsel investigates and enforces violations of the Consumer Protection Act. \u00a0The office was re-established in August 2015 in the wake of Typhoon Soudelor after receiving numerous complaints of price gouging and selling of defective items. A media campaign was launched to deter businesses from taking advantage of consumers during disaster. Since the re-establishment, the following activities have occurred:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Established a joint Consumer Protection Task Force<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Increasing publicity of the office\u2019s consumer protection services and has launched weekly consumer protection campaign in local newspapers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Issued approximately 30 notices of violation of the Consumer Protection Act<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Collaboration with other government enforcement agencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Increased enforcement of consumer protection laws by conducting regular inspections of retail establishments to ensure compliance with the Consumer Protection Act.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Attorney General Manibusan entered into a cooperative agreement with the Attorney General of Guam, Elizabeth Barrett-Anderson, to enhance consumer protection efforts.
